Archbishop Pietro Sambi, the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, announced today that Pope Benedict XVI will make his first visit to the United States Tuesday, April 15, through Sunday, April 20, 2008. At this stage, his plans include an address to the United Nations in New York City and a visit to Washington, D.C., where he will visit President Bush at the White House then meet with the American bishops at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
On Thursday, April 17, the Holy Father plans a public Mass at the new Washington Nationals stadium.
The Pope will address the United Nations on Friday, April 18, and will visit with his cherished young people on Saturday at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, NY.
Pope Benedict will end his visit by paying his respects at Ground Zero in New York City and then he will bid America farewell with a Mass at Yankee Stadium. |
